Joy

This place has been my classroom this spring...

And these guys have been my teachers...

The lessons have been so simple and yet so profound...

The subject...

JOY

Their love of fishing has reminded me that joy is everywhere, everyday, all around me...
if I will just open my eyes to see it.

It's there on the good days when someone catches a big one, and it's there on the not-so-good days when all we end up with is tangled lines and lost lures. It's even there on the days that drag by and I feel like we're just barely plodding along, days that seem more full of waiting than anything else, days when there's not a single bite.

But, I'm ever-so-slowly learning that it is always there...
the beauty and the grace and the joy and the wonder that can be found in every single, little moment.

Just take a look at the sunset or the reflection on the lake or this little guy with his summer buzz cut, waiting patiently for a bite. He might catch a big one. He might not. But he ENJOYS the moment. He finds the JOY, and he and his brothers have reminded me this spring what it means to have a child-like heart, full of wonder and delight.

Lord, fill me with hope, joy, and expectation. Don't let me forget to open my eyes, to look, to be still and quiet, to find wonder and delight. Don't let me get so distracted, so busy, so anxious, or so preoccupied that I don't see what they see... joy in the littlest of things,  joy that does not depend on my circumstances, joy when the sun rises early in the morning, and joy in the darkest hours of the night...
joy that can always be found in You!
Thank You, Lord, for joy!

In Thy presence is fullness of joy...
Psalm 16:11

XOXO,
Melanie
