Counting Mercies: #50 - The Mercy of Being Chosen

She was chosen...

Not because of how she looks (although we think she's pretty cute!)...

Not because of what we think she will become (even though we fully believe that the Lord has big plans for her little life!)...

Not because we thought she would be a perfect fit for our family...

Or because adoption was something we've always wanted to do...

Or because it made any sense at all...

We were chosen...

To be her Momma and Daddy, her brothers, and her baby sister...

Not because we would be the perfect family for her...

Not because we know what we're doing...

Chosen, all of us, hearts supernaturally knit together since we first saw her little picture! Birthed in my heart and BY FAR, the most difficult and painful birthing experience of all, I count another mercy this morning! And sometimes mercies hurt...

God doesn't allow pain unless He's allowing something new to be born. And there are a thousand ways births can happen unseen to the naked eye, but it's the eyes of the heart that see the delivering mercies of God.
Ann Voskamp

"I have chosen you..."
That is the way the grace of God begins...
The drawing is done by the supernatural grace of God, and we can never trace where His work begins...
God does not ask us to do the things that are easy to us naturally;
He only asks us to do the things we are perfectly fitted to do by His grace, and the cross will come along that line always.
Oswald Chambers

Unerring wisdom ordained your lot, and selected for you the safest and BEST condition...Remember this, had any other condition been better for you than the one in which you are, divine love would have put you there. You are placed by God in the most suitable circumstances, and if you had the choosing of your lot, you would soon cry, "Lord, choose my inheritance for me..." Be content with such things as you have, since the Lord has ordered all things for your good. Take up your own daily cross; it is the burden best suited for your shoulder, and will prove most effective to make you perfect in every good work and word to the glory of God. Down busy self, and proud impatience, it is not for you to choose, but for the Lord of Love...
Charles Spurgeon

Thank You, all-knowing and all-wise Father! Open the eyes of my heart and hers to see...the mercy of being chosen!

XOXO,
Melanie

  1. First time I have stumbled onto your blog, through various links from nogreaterjoymom and the blessingofverity.com. You have a beautiful family. I guess I felt compelled to comment because I am 33, my oldest is 7, and then I have 3 more. No adoptions yet, but I wonder about the future. Thanks for obeying Jesus' call, and may you have his everlasting grace with Sophi. Thanks for reminding me of joy in the hard moments. :)
